February’s Breakfast Putt took us to Charley’s Place in Glendale, 19 hot rods and 41 guys and gals attended. A little over an hour saw plenty of conversation, food and fellowship. Its great to see this group function with their cars, food & stories. A few found their way to Martin’s Auto Museum, over one hundred unique and interesting vehicles of all kinds. A very nice way to spend a morning.

February 2022 Breakfast Putt

February 19, 2022

Mesa and Phoenix, Az.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Mesa for the first leg of the monthly putt for the Over the Hill Gang-Phoenix on Saturday, February 19, 2022. We had 28 people at the breakfast and it was enjoyable as usual, talking and socializing with everyone.  We had about an hour to kill before we could head to the second leg of the putt to the Hall of Flame Museum of Fire Fighting, so we shopped a little while at the restaurant.  It’s a great place to buy gifts, candy, etc., so it wasn’t too terrible to have to wait.  Some of the Gang were only there for the breakfast because they had other commitments afterwards, but from what I could see, they had a good time.

There were 18 of us at the Hall of Flame Museum in Phoenix:  “The world’s largest firefighting museum chronicles the history of the profession and commemorates fallen firefighters.”  If you’ve never been there, it’s a very interesting place to visit, and we had our very own docent giving us a private tour, who is a retired firefighter with a passion for all things related to firefighting equipment and history.  There was a big display of all of the past resuscitative equipment as well.  We learned a lot and were awed by the collection of antique fire trucks from all over the world.  There were displays in tribute to those who died during 9/11 as well as the Granite Mountain Hot Shots during the Yarnell fire on June 30, 2013.  There is an impressive collection of fire department patches from cities all over the country which covered almost every wall of the Museum. There is a lot more to see and learn, and a must-visit if you haven’t been.  If you’re interested in seeing more photos, Google Trip Advisor’s site for the Hall of Flame Museum of Fire Fighting; I think you’ll be impressed.

Thank you for joining us on our putt…Bob & Betty Bailey

October 2021 Breakfast Putt

October 16, 2021

Gilbert, AZ.

October’s Breakfast Putt was hosted by Art and Debbie Thomas at their home. Breakast items provided by the Thomases were biscuits, gravy, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit bowl, donuts, coffee, orange juice and water. Debbie made about a hundred biscuits, 80 pounds of fruit salad, probably 10 dozen scrambled eggs. Members could also bring their own gravy and compete in a cook off contest. There was no clear winner as all the homemade gravys were very tasty.

Breakfast Putt to Buffalo Chip Saloon

Cave Creek, Az.

April 3, 2021

The OTHG  enjoyed a beautiful pre-Easter Saturday morning  putt to the Buffalo Chip Saloon in Cave Creek on April 3. There were 44 members present along with 3 guests. The Chip staff had a hot buffet breakfast ready and the members dug in at 9:35.We were seated in the covered outdoor pavilion  There was plenty of food and great conversation as many of us had not seen each other for some time. The parking lot was filled with an Easter egg basket of colors of numerous fine vehicles belonging to our members. Quite a site for other Chip customers! John Carmody, who works at Speedway, was asked to bring some door prizes for the event. He really came through for us. He and Leah were the unofficial vehicle selection committee and picked some cars to be awarded prizes including: Speedway gift certificates, Goodguys passes, shirts, grease rags , coozies and more. Thanks to John and Leah. Also, special thanks to Larry and Teresa Way (east) and Ron and Carol Boen (west) for serving as the OTHG Road Captains. Another thanks to Steve Bryant, friend (and enforcer), who helped me collect the fees from the buffet participants. Will and Cindy Myers experienced some car trouble on the way and were unfortunately unable to attend but as of today their beautiful ’40 Ford coupe is at home and will be back on the road with only minor repairs needed.

A great thank you to all who attended and made this event a success!

Our May Putt to Bicuits Cafe was a great success. Lots of club members attended joined by friends and friends of friends. We sat outside on the patio and social distancing rules were followed, wait staff wore masks and the menus were disposable as were the condiments, etc. No more than 10 people in a group and the tables were spaced 6 feet apart. Food was great and the wait staff was friendly and efficient! Thanks go to Gene and Margaret Maione for putting this together.

OTHG Phoenix decided to have a Social Distancing putt. Parking at the restaurant in a circle and maintaining social distancing. Meals were ordered for take out. A pretty decent turnout considering the times we are in.
