2023 New Years Day Breakfast Cruise

Kimmyz on Greenway Rock & Roll Bar

Glendale, AZ

After a 2 year Covid pause, the annual “Ron & John’s New Year’s Day breakfast cruise” resumed on January 1, 2023.
This year we tried a new venue…Kimmiz’ Bar and Grill in Glendale. The staff went out of their way to make sure the nearly 90 folks in attendance were treated to a tasty and hot buffet breakfast. If anyone left hungry it was their own fault!
Because of the rainy weather there was only one lonely street rod in the parking lot. Most were too smart to drive in the rain. It was a great time to kick off the new year and we hope to use this venue again.
Cohost John Logsten (sp) gathered a bunch of swag and had a goodie bag for every one. Thanks John, very thoughtful.
John and Ron thank everybody who attended. It makes all the work putting this together a pleasure.

2022 Ronald McDonald House Donation

Phoenix, AZ

Writeup by Dawn Yex

Back in March 2022, the club voted that the Ronald McDonald House Phoenix would be our charity that we would raise funds for this year. So at our Christmas party we did a silent auction with over 40 items to bid on. The party team worked for months getting donations from restaurants, museums, zoos, and many other items. I am so proud to say that this club really shined and was so generous! A total of $2600 was raised for RMH!

They were so appreciative for this great donation! The RMH Phoenix has three facilities in the Phoenix area, and they are affiliated with several hospitals. The houses provide free lodging and meals for families that have children in the hospitals. The are a respite for these families at a very difficult time in their life. The RMH operates totally on donations. My family has been one of the families that they have helped and I can tell you 1st hand just how wonderful the RMH foundation is. Thank you ALL for your generosity and support.

2022 Christmas Toy Donation

Phoenix, AZ

December 15, 2022

Writeup by Dawn Yex

On December 15 the club delivered all the toys that were collected along with Brian and his group at Vintage Parts (previously So-Cal). Just like we have done in the past several years we collected these for the Children’s Rehabilitative Services. It is an out patient clinic. This year we delivered the toys directly to the clinic along with Vintage Parts. We were able to tour the clinic and learn more about what they do. The following week on 12/22 they had the Christmas party for all the patient’s and their families. It was then that all the kids (even siblings of patients) received toys and also free books.  Debbie and Art Thomas and Dawn Yex had so much fun being elves and helping at the party by handing out free books to the children. It was so heartwarming and humbling to share in this day.  Thanks again to the club for their generosity! I’m proud to be a part of this club.

The OTHG Christmas party was held at The American Legion Hall in Scottsdale. We had about 45 people in attendance. Bartlett Lake Picnic 2022

Carefree, AZ

November 5, 2022

Beautiful drive through Arizona’s finest flora and fauna, little over an hour from our house in Surprise. Everyone hauled food, chairs, harmonica (in Gary’s case), charcoal, meat, side dishes, lots of desserts down the steps to the three covered picnic tables. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit, eat, fellowship, and enjoy the great weather. John L. counted 38 members on the signup list. The lake was down but still beautiful. Wish more would come, a great time had by all. Oh, yah, where were the hot dog and hamburger buns? Mike is still looking.

February 2022 Breakfast Putt

February 19, 2022

Mesa and Phoenix, Az.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Mesa for the first leg of the monthly putt for the Over the Hill Gang-Phoenix on Saturday, February 19, 2022. We had 28 people at the breakfast and it was enjoyable as usual, talking and socializing with everyone.  We had about an hour to kill before we could head to the second leg of the putt to the Hall of Flame Museum of Fire Fighting, so we shopped a little while at the restaurant.  It’s a great place to buy gifts, candy, etc., so it wasn’t too terrible to have to wait.  Some of the Gang were only there for the breakfast because they had other commitments afterwards, but from what I could see, they had a good time.

There were 18 of us at the Hall of Flame Museum in Phoenix:  “The world’s largest firefighting museum chronicles the history of the profession and commemorates fallen firefighters.”  If you’ve never been there, it’s a very interesting place to visit, and we had our very own docent giving us a private tour, who is a retired firefighter with a passion for all things related to firefighting equipment and history.  There was a big display of all of the past resuscitative equipment as well.  We learned a lot and were awed by the collection of antique fire trucks from all over the world.  There were displays in tribute to those who died during 9/11 as well as the Granite Mountain Hot Shots during the Yarnell fire on June 30, 2013.  There is an impressive collection of fire department patches from cities all over the country which covered almost every wall of the Museum. There is a lot more to see and learn, and a must-visit if you haven’t been.  If you’re interested in seeing more photos, Google Trip Advisor’s site for the Hall of Flame Museum of Fire Fighting; I think you’ll be impressed.

Thank you for joining us on our putt…Bob & Betty Bailey

2021 Christmas Party

December 4, 2021

Our Over the Hill Gang-Phoenix Christmas/Holiday party was held at the American Legion hall in Scottsdale, and was a total blast from the past…optional period dress from the ’20s, ’30s, ’40s, or ’50, our cars’ eras…plus a couple of hippies. We had a fun band, did some Boot Scootin’ Boogie, had an auction with many fantastic items in baskets, a beautiful handmade quilt and table runner, beautiful handmade cigar-box guitar, all to benefit Hospice of the Valley. We did very well in the bidding department!! Most of us danced the night away!
