Havasu Deuces 2024

Lake Havasu, AZ

March 7 – 9, 2024

Our adventure started on Thursday morning bright and early. We (Larry Way and I) were to meet up with some other hot rods in Wickenburg about 730am, 2 more 32 roadsters, one a topless version, a Factory  Five 33, and a very cool 36 roadster, and a 1956 Nomad.

We had our meet up and 6 cars left Mc Donald’s for Havasu. Just out of Wickenburg it started raining, then the Factory Five 33 had a computer problem. Back on the highway it continued to rain, steady but not too hard. The topless roadster pilot didn’t look to comfortable he was soaking up a lot of rain.

Inside my 32 our arms were getting some water but not too bad! So rain most of the way into Parker for our gas stop. At Parker the Sun was out and mostly blue skies.

We thought we were over the rainy weather.

Then between Parker and Havasu the heavens opened up and it “RAINED”, serious rain, couldn’t see the car in front of us, and frogs were looking for shelter. Yeah we got a little wet, the topless pilot was a soggy mess. So it was brief but memorable, then we arrived at the host hotel for registration. All in all, with stops and breakdown, time out to wring out shirts and stuff we were after 1PM by now.

We decided to not go downtown to park as they had been parking cars since before 10AM. We unpacked and went for lunch instead.

Friday morning we started the garage tours about 830AM, GPS gave good directions, but “there are no straight streets in Lake Havasu”! At least not in the areas we visited for the tours.

Uphill, Downhill right Roundy turn, left Roundy turn…Seemed like at times we were circling back on ourselves. All that was forgotten as we visited great, unbelievable garages and car displays. The attached photos do not do justice to the sites. At times I was so engrossed in looking I forgot to take pictures. Every site was filled with great stuff and friendly people. Havasu Deuces set up a super Friday of tours.

Saturday morning early we got inline for entry to the Rotary Park, 32’s go in first then everything else.  No bad parking spots easy entry, easy exit. Again the Havasu Deuces know how to organize stuff. There were an amazing assortment of Deuces from all over the country. As well as a lot of super non-32’s. good food vendor choices and a lot of spectators.

The trip home on Sunday was non eventful, just great cruising time cool but not cold, light traffic.

So my standard tag line… “Ya shoulda been there”

Close to 30 members drove to Yuma to enjoy the weekend put on by the Caballeros de Yuma. The fun started Thursday night with a downtown car show. The main show was held at Caballero Park on Friday and Saturday. There were close to 1000 cars in attendance and everyone had a reserved spot in the various fields. There was plenty of food to be had each day, included with your admission, and concerts in the stadium each night. A great time was had by all!

Glendale, AZ

Our 15th annual New Years Day cruise was a big success. We had to cap registration at 100 and sold out quickly. We only had one no show and I am currently hunting him down. Remember no shows will be shot! Just kidding.
Kimmyz on Greenway hosted the event  for the second year and they outdid themselves. They are really great hosts.
Thanks to everyone who came out. Good food and good fellowship. It doesn’t get any better than that!
Thank you from your co-hosts,

John Logsdon and Ron Boen

On December 18th several OTHG members participated in joining Brian Benzing from Vintage Parts Arizona in delivering toys that were collected for the Childrens Rehabilitation Services Clinic. We all went to the clinic to deliver the toys. The director was able to share with us about the party being held Dec 22 where the children and their families will come to see Santa and receive a gift and enjoy the party. Some of these children will only be getting these toys. The clinic is a wonderful outreach to families and we are proud to be able to help in this small way.

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for ALL of you who participated and donated to our silent auction for the Foundation for Blind Children. I think it’s safe to say that we all had a wonderful time at the Christmas party on Saturday night. The food, music, decorations, and atmosphere and smiles on everyone’s faces was wonderful. Laughter filled the room as I watched people trying to out bid others. I just couldn’t be any prouder to be a part of this group of very generous, giving people. The silent auction raised $3200 for the Foundation!!! They were so grateful and appreciative when we brought them the check. We made a difference in some people’s lives and that’s what Christmas is all about!

Thank you and Merry Christmas

Dawn

This year’s picnic was again held at the Rattlesnake day use area at Bartlett Lake. Everyone hauled their chairs and coolers down the steps to the three covered picnic tables. There was plenty of food for all; appetizers, salads and lots of desserts and of course BBQ’d Hot Dogs and Hamburgers. This year featured buns for the Dogs and Burgers! There was plenty of room for everyone to set up their chairs and have a great visit in the beautiful weather. We had a total of 42 people attend this year; 38 members, 2 guests and 1 applicant couple.

2023 Welcome Back Party

Boen’s Back Yard

October 29, 2023

Photos by Al Turley, Danise Cover and Andy Yex

After a 3 year hiatus, starting with Covid-19, the annual party was held in the Boen’s backyard.  This year we had a Jimmy Buffett theme with complimentary margaritas.  We don’t have a totally accurate count but it was in the neighborhood of 128.  A great crowd of good people, good drinks,  and more food than we knew what to do with, and a lot of fun renewing old friendships.  This party is for all car people, not just one particular club, The Over The Hill Gang was very well represented as well as members of the Dipsticks from Sun City West.

Thanks to everyone who attended and thanks to all those who brought so much delicious food.  Maybe it will happen again next year (no promises).

October 2023 Breakfast Putt

Saguaro Lake Marina

Mesa, AZ

The Over the Hill Gang-Phoenix Putt to Saguaro Lake on Saturday, the 21st of October, had a great turn-out with 42 attendees including invited guests who were prior active members of the Club. It was a perfect day for a drive starting at our meeting place in Fountain Hills, which was only a 15-minute drive to the Saguaro Lake Marina and ShipRock Restaurant, and it took us through a scenic route through our beautiful desert. The weather could not have been more perfect for this fun outing. The restaurant staff made our breakfast enjoyable with great service
and good food. Everyone seemed to have a relaxing time enjoying each other’s company and the beautiful venue at the lake. Bob and I thank all who attended to make this putt successful and very enjoyable. ~ Betty
